BRUSSELS, July 11 (Reuters) - The following are proposed mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures under review by the European Commission, and a brief guide to the EU merger process:

APPROVALS AND WITHDRAWALS:

-- French yeast and bread-making products company Lesaffre buys British yeast company GBI and British bakery ingredients company BFP (approved July 11)

NEW LISTINGS:

-- Belgian fresh products company De Weide Blik NV, controlled by CVC Capital Partners, buys German rival Atlanta AG (notified July 4/deadline Aug. 11)

-- German financing solutions company Gefa, belonging to France's Societe Generale , buys German truck and trailer rental company Pema GmbH (notified July 4/deadline Aug. 11)

-- French energy company Total and Algerian gas giant Sonatrach acquire joint control of two newly created Algerian petrochemical companies (notified July 8/deadline Aug. 13/simplified)

-- Dutch holding company Burani Designer Holding and certain funds belonging to British international private equity group 3i buy Italian luxury leather goods company APB (notified July 4/deadline Aug. 11/simplified)

EXTENSIONS AND OTHER CHANGES:

-- BRIST Ltd, a Malta-based holding company, and UPM-Kymmene RUS Holdings Oy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Finnish forest products group UPM-Kymmene , acquire joint control of a Dutch-based joint venture that will produce sawn timber and pulp in Russia's Vologda region (notified June 20/deadline July 28/simplified/changed to normal clearance procedure on July 11)
